New Market Tax Credits | The Impact of Two Notch Tomorrow

Date: March 19, 2025

At the close of last year, the South Carolina Community Loan Fund (SCCLF) held its annual Board of Directors meeting at FoodShare, a key tenant of the Two Notch Tomorrow redevelopment project. Before the meeting, our team had the opportunity to tour the site and witness firsthand the transformational impact of this initiative.

SCCLF is proud to be part of this initiative by providing a $6 million New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) allocation to support Two Notch Tomorrow. This furthers the efforts of The Meeting Place Church International, the driving force behind this redevelopment. Beyond FoodShare, the facility also serves as a home to various businesses, creating a ripple effect that strengthens the whole community.

Two Notch Tomorrow was a once-vacant strip center in Columbia adjacent to the largely unoccupied Columbia Place Mall. The heart of Two Notch Tomorrow is the University of South Carolina’s FoodShare program, which operates out of the 18,000-square-foot headquarters.

This facility plays a critical role in the community, supplying fresh, healthy food to over 22,500 individuals annually and supporting a food delivery program for those with limited transportation access. Additionally, FoodShare offers food education initiatives to empower families with knowledge on nutrition and meal preparation within a well-designed culinary arts kitchen..

After touring the FoodShare program, Menia Lee, SCCLF’s Chief Operating Officer, was interviewed on Praise 95.7 FM and 1170 AM, a station operated by The Meeting Place Church. Bishop Eric Freeman and Menia discussed insights into SCCLF’s efforts to expand access to capital for South Carolina communities.

Bishop Freeman and Menia emphasized the importance of faith-based partnerships in community development, noting their collaborative efforts that have made Two Notch Tomorrow a reality. Listen to the full interview here.

The Two Notch Tomorrow project exemplifies how strategic investments and partnerships can drive meaningful change. SCCLF is dedicated to continuing to leverage New Markets Tax Credits to support impactful projects and is always looking for new opportunities to collaborate with mission-aligned partners.
