A veteran-owned business is increasing its ability to provide Beaufort County with premier fitness options for people of all ages.

Located in Beaufort, Sports Academy Gymnastics is owned by Retired Lieutenant Colonel David Kirkwood and Victoria Kirkwood. It has offered gymnastics programs over the years to communities across the state such as Bluffton, Hardeeville, Ridgeland, Hampton, Walterboro, Parris Island and Allendale since opening in 1995.

The Kirkwoods are in the process of adding a 5600 square foot addition to their current building. This will allow them to expand all their programs as well as adding additional youth fitness options.

Enrollment for Sports Academy currently exceeds 300 students in a variety of different programs, from Mommy and Me, preschool movement education, recreational gymnastics, warrior programs, cheer tumbling, and competitive gymnastics.

The new addition will allow for an in-ground training pit, in- ground 40- foot Tumbl Trac, in-ground trampoline as well as a new ninja/warrior and fitness training area, full 42-square foot spring floor exercise area, and additional beam and vault training areas as well.
